Oh Boy... - we are still here!

Yes, we are still here. Momma haded a busy week (as always during the last weeks...) and then the long awaited baby was bornded!! Some of you know we thought it will be a girl baby bean but - well - "she" turned out to be a "he" and fooled us all *ggg* Anyhoo all the beans are furry excited and happy and are fuzzing around... Momma and baby bean are well and yesterday momma bisited them in the hospital. She was there nearly the whole day!! And again haded no time for us *seeesh* - ok she snuggled lots wif us when she came back and we gots lots of our favourite treats, but anyhoo the weekends are supposed to be our time wif momma! She also showed us some pics (maybe we can show you pic later, we are not sure if it is ok by now we'll hafta wait and ask first) of the newbornded baby boy and Othello started to purr and rub his face to the pic *silly boy he is* ... I say: No babys are staying at my house!! If they come to bisit, ok but not staying!! So that's a quick update on us. We've been napping wif momma all morning, now she is having her breakfast and then she promised she'll help us wif blogging and bisiting our furriends!
hugs'n'kisses Kashim
Peee Esss: Othello tolded me to write if Gree wants to telerport ofur and snuggle wif him at the window he'll be very happy. He saved some nip for her... Peee Peee Esss: I am at the cat chat for some while, so if anycat wants to come and chat just drop in. I might be naping, so be patient if you come and I do not response immediately...

Whisper (aka Grumpybut) - Mielito (missing) - Lunita

candlecandlecandle

Our thoughts and purrayers for the beloved ones who are left behind and missing you!

And God asked the feline spirit
Are you ready to come home?
Oh, yes, quite so, replied the precious soul
And, as a cat, you know I am most able
To decide anything for myself.

Are you coming then? asked God.
Soon, replied the whiskered angel
But I must come slowly
For my human friends are troubled
For you see, they need me, quite certainly.

But don’t they understand? asked God
That you’ll never leave them?
That your souls are intertwined. For all eternity?
That nothing is created or destroyed?
It just is….forever and ever and ever.

Eventually they will understand,
Replied the glorious cat
For I will whisper into their hearts
That I am always with them
I just am….forever and ever and ever.

Bad Kitty Cat Festival Of Chaos No.09 - WeLcOmE !!

Bad Kitty Cat Festival Of Chaos

Welcome to the Bad Kitty Cat Festival of Chaos Edition No.9 here at our place!

This weeks optional theme is Rain or Water! Aye speaking of water: We had some heavy rains this week here in Austria and some parts even were at very high flood warning levels. We have been a bit worried but not in danger. Here in the big city of Vienna we have never been threatened by a flood warning. But at momma's hometown there have been several severe floods which caused lots of damage and costed lots of money afterwards.... Again momma's parents and their home were never in any danger 'CCause their house is way up on a hill were no flood could cause any damage. But knowing her hometown is threatened by flood again did not make momma happy tho. Well now lets go on with the festival, we don't want to spoil the fun with our rantings...
kerze On the other paw we would like you to take a minute of silence with us and think of our fellow felines who are worried, in need, missing or left forever. We light a candle for those who are not so happy to light their way to happiness again!

Do you kitties like water?

Bad Kitty Cat Festival Of Chaos #9 - 03
Bad Kitty Cat Festival Of Chaos #9 - 04

Now let's have a look what all the other bad (or not so bad) kitty cats were up to this week:

Bad Kitty Cat Festival Of Chaos #9Bad Kitty Cat Festival Of Chaos #9 Miss Lizzie Bennet seems to have found a perfect hiding spot - either from the sun or I think it might be also a quite good spot to be save for occasional rains... Luna looks just georgous at her spot at the window she is such a lovely young lady! A Perfect spot for me for watching some rain (if it comes)... Later on this weekend Amar and Luna have another quite interesting tip regarding our theme - go check out! Bad Kitty Cat Festival Of Chaos #9Bad Kitty Cat Festival Of Chaos #9 Arhur and Rosie are watching the outside from their place at the window after having fun with a spider *eeek* (uhm that was from momma...) - maybe they are expecting cats and dogs coming down...? (never fully understood this bean saying anyway...) Tigger and Sam are having fun with some memes they are answering - go check out some interesting news about thems. ... and you can see Tigger taking a bath... ;) Bad Kitty Cat Festival Of Chaos #9Bad Kitty Cat Festival Of Chaos #9 At Mind of Mog there were some outside activities to be done - with kitties of course... Finding a cool spot is a very good thing and being successful in claiming the table too - go and give some congrats to Izzy *snickers* Bad Kitty Cat Festival Of Chaos #9Bad Kitty Cat Festival Of Chaos #9 Again it is Meowza on her outside adventure who gets prepared for it by having a good couple of scritches... It's Ambers turn to be featured this time and we have to say she deserves it. She is a very pretty lady!! It's good to claim a fair share of blogging sometimes, huh? Bad Kitty Cat Festival Of Chaos #9Bad Kitty Cat Festival Of Chaos #9 Awww look at this sweeeet sibling-love: Gracie and Ping truly love each other!! But be careful it's at highest cuteness factor over there... Our buddy Dragonheart reminds us that the weather has been weird throughout the year. In March there was some frozen water coming down in front of his window... Bad Kitty Cat Festival Of Chaos #9Bad Kitty Cat Festival Of Chaos #9 The best you can do an a rainy day is to snuggle up with as many of your siblings as possible. Pretty comfy huh? Need some help? Unanswered questions bothering you? Head ofur to Spike and Boo the Agony Cats and you'll find some help! Bad Kitty Cat Festival Of Chaos #9Bad Kitty Cat Festival Of Chaos #9 Did you know about sinking? No? Uhm, then be quick and visit Bonnie and Victor the masterchiefs of sinking! Parker - ypu know the perfectly peaceful girly cat - is think of herself now and then when she was a feral kitty back then... Bad Kitty Cat Festival Of Chaos #9Bad Kitty Cat Festival Of Chaos #9 The Gigolokitty is back!! You simply have to check him out in his hilarious Frida Kahlo outfit!! Pepi, Sanjy, Boni, Mini and Gree are snoopervizing their momma with doing an very impawtant job: Making nip ravioli to test ... errr ... fotograf... we are furry excited about this new business of the Hot(m)BC...

Well, .... That's the festival for now! You can still join by sending your links or leaving a comment here at this post to be included. We will make sure you are added as soon as possible. If you have sent your link and are not included by now, it may be that Megan has not sent it to us yet so please simply leave a quick note in the comments as well... Thanks!

Farewell Ayla!

09-05-07_ayla_rip

"We who choose to surround ourselves with lives
even more temporary than our own,
live within a fragile circle, easily and often breached.
Unable to accept its awful gaps, we still would live no other way.
We cherish memory as the only certain immortality,
never fully understanding the necessary plan."

kashim Othello It's weekend. It's cat blogging time. We cats rule the blog   This week WCB is hosted by us - Welcome to WCB  ! A weekend in Silence & Remembrance

A Light in Silence & Remembrance
They say memories are golden well maybe that is true. I never wanted memories, I only wanted you. A million times I needed you, a million times I cried. If love alone could have saved you you never would have died. In life I loved you dearly, In death I love you still. In my heart you hold a place no one could ever fill. If tears could build a stairway and heartache make a lane, I'd walk the path to heaven and bring you back again. Our family chain is broken, and nothing seems the same. But as God calls us one by one, the chain will link again. Author unknown
It's our duty to be host of WCB (Weekend Cat Blogging) this weekend and initially we planned to dedicate this WCB to Anastasia. But then we learned that Oscar the Puppy Cat and sweet little Ubee joined our furriends at the Rainbow Bridge. This have been some sad weeks in the Cat Blogosphere with saying goodbye to many furriends. So we thought we'd all need some time in silence and peace...

So this is our plan for the coming weekend:

Please light the above candle with us on your blog on Friday, Saturday or Sunday in Remembrance of all our dear furriends we had to say goodbye lately and those who came before.
If you want to join us please leave a comment here or at our WCB entry which we will blog tomorrow at momma's foodblog. Yous can also write to catboys AT paulchens DOT org and tell us your URL. Peee Esss: Momma promised to photoshop us a better graphic wif a candle to use when she get home this evening. To join simply grab this code for the picture and post it on your blog: A Light in Silence & Remembrance There is a smaller Version of the graphic too, if the other one is too big for you: A Light in Silence & Remembrance
Some of our furriends have already lit their candle, so we'll start with the sea of candles right away. We will add a candle for every blog entry you tell us, so if yous haf several posts please tell us.

[Weekend Herb Blogging] # 97 - Rose Oil

whb This week WHB is hosted by Scott @ Real Epicurean! Still not much cooking around here. Monday Mr G. will be back from holidays hopefully then we will be back to more cooking. Meanwhile I was playing around with my herbs (harvesting them to dry and have some on stock for more tea blends and spice blends to cook).

I used about 200 ml grape seed oil, 4 tablespoons rose leaves, 1 cinnamon stick, 2 dried mace and some vanilla powder (as I unfortunately had no vanilla beans available). I heated the oil to a bit more than handwarm and added all other ingredients, purred it into an airt-tight glass and let it steep for at least 1 week.

Karottenbrot

540 g Bread flour 60 g Cake flour 10 g Dry active yeast 30 g Milk powder 80 g Sugar 9 g Salt 1 Egg 250 g Fresh milk 150 g Whipping cream (heavy cream) our changes: 600 g spelt flour 40 g brown sugar 150 g Rama Cremefine (low fat substitute for heavy cream)
What we did was: Knead for 10 minutes. Let the sponge rise 2 1/2 hours. Divide into 4 parts and let rest 20 minutes. Proceeded as described and let rise for 3 hours. We did not brush it with egg wash or milk. Bake for 35 minutes at 175°C. Remove from pan and let cool down in warm oven.

Here are some pics of the whole process (click pics to enlarge):

Conclusion:

I like it very much. It turned out like the others described 'though we used spelt and 'though we did not obey exactly to the recipe. Next time I definitely will try to reduce sugar even more to get a bread which is similar to the Irish od British toast (dunno if this is the right expression for German "Toastbrot"... ) And I definitely will take up zorra's idea of spreading nutella (or something else) onto the dough befor rolling it up. Sounds most delicious to me!
Hokkaido-Milchbrot
I am sure Mrs Q. has lots of ideas how to improve this bread for the next time we'll bake it...

[breadbakingday] #03 - Bread with rye sourdough & whole grain spelt

bbd #03 This round is hosted by the fabulous bread baker Ulrike of Küchenlaten. As you might know I am not a passionate and proficient bread baker. Most of my breads are easy to whip up recipes to be made in my bread making machine. And sourdough scares me. I had several tries in the past and well - I have to admit they did not work out very well... My kitchen possibilities are very restricted as I am living in an one room apartment with a very small kitchen - I do not even have a oven, only a microwave with several baking functionalities. Aye - to cut a long story short: A few days ago I was talking with Mrs Q. about the current theme of bbd and she invited me to bake the bread in her wonderful kitchen. Thanks for that my dear by the way  That's how the project began: One kitchen. Two woman. Lots of ideas. And finally the sourdough. Wanna know what we came up with? Well let's see... Mrs Q. did several researches about sourdough in the internet and began with the preperations one day before:

    Preparing the sourdough

20 grams dried sourdough 300 ml water 200 grams rye flour
Dissolve 20 grams dried sourdough in 300 ml water. Add 200 grams rye flour. Wait for ~ 20 hours.
Our sourdough looked like this after 20 hours (klick pics to enlarge):
[breadbakingday] #03 - bread with rye sourdough hosted by Küchenlatein [breadbakingday] #03 - bread with rye sourdough hosted by Küchenlatein

The making of the bread

160 grams whole grain spelt flour 1/2 package dried yeast 4 grams salt
Combine all ingredients (including the sourdough from above) and knead for about 10 minutes. Let rise for 2,5 hours. Degas the dough and fill in your baking pan. Let rise again in the oven for 10 minutes while heating up to 230°C (open door). Bake the bread for 20 minutes at 200°C. Remove bread from baking dish and let cool down in the warm oven (open door). Thats how our bread looked like:
[breadbakingday] #03 - bread with rye sourdough hosted by Küchenlatein After 2,5 hours rising & degasing. [breadbakingday] #03 - bread with rye sourdough hosted by Küchenlatein [breadbakingday] #03 - bread with rye sourdough hosted by Küchenlatein After rising for 10 minutes in the oven. [breadbakingday] #03 - bread with rye sourdough hosted by Küchenlatein [breadbakingday] #03 - bread with rye sourdough hosted by Küchenlatein After baking and cooling down.
To be honest it was the first bread with sourdough I made & liked. It tastes very good, we tried the first bites with plain butter and it tasted very delicious. So I think this qualifies the bread to be sumbitted to bbd #03... :;):

World Bread Day
World Bread Day '07 This year's World Bread Day will take place on Tuesday, October 16.
All over the world bread bears a highly symbolic power: It stands for solidarity as well as the ability to share. As a universal product, found in every civilisation, made out of various types of grain, characterised by the manifold fermentation processes and the different ways of baking, bread - even now in the third millennium - accompanies every meal. Staple food for some, luxury or modern dietary food for others - bread in itself means so much that it deserves a World Day in its honour! The World Bread Day wants to provide an opportunity to talk about bread and bakers, to find out about their history, their importance as well as their future. source

    bbd - breadbakingday

breadbakingday Lovely Mrs Zorra of Kochtopf aka 1x umrühren bitte started a new monthly event: bbd- breadbaking day. See the first anouncement here. What's it all about? Aye as you might have guessed ist's about bread baking! Zorra says:
breadbakingday the monthly event for passionate and to-be bread bakers. Let's bake bread and share recipes and experiences on the first day of every month. Make sure you got the monthly bbd theme, post your recipe by the specified deadline and email the host with a link to your entry.

    bbd rounds so far:

Want to be the host? If you would like to host one of the next breadbakingday, send an e-mail to kochtopf (at) gmail (dot) com.
