Busy weekend ...

Lots of things are going on this weekend - besides the usual cat blogging weekend stuff of course - to name to furry important: Sammy-Meezer Mr.Tigger announced at the M-Cats Club that our Sammy Meezer the Whapmeister himself will be one of the drivers on Sunday at the Daytona race! Isn't this the greatest mews? We hope to see you all at the sky box at the race on sunday afternoon to see Sammy race and support hims! springhassprungcontest Speaking of the Meezers: Latte has started a new contest to help wif green papers for the February bills and his mommy will donate $1 for every entry. We sent in our entries this morning, you can see them when you klick on the pikshurs below:

And we are purraying very hard for Churchill who is in surgery for hims badly hurted leg. We hope the VETs can fix it real good. And we are purraying for Percy of the Cats Stephens, we just learned that he is feeling poorly and they don't know yet ifn it is amaybe a tumor or "just" an abscess. Please Percy get reeel well soon. And of course we are still purraying for Missy Bloo Eyes and her beautiful but badly hurt blue eye. We hope we did not forget anycat who need purrin' - aye that's a lot of purrin' this weekend :)

Dreaming on Caturday ...

Oh we had such a wonderful Valentine's Day!!

We were on the Dr.Tweety's Love Cruise (thanks to Momo by the way) and we had so much fun seeing all our friends again and beinig able to talk to them, we missed it so much. And the best thing is: Gree accepted Othello's proposal and his ring, they are getting married, isn't that the best news ever? ...and after Kashim took his heart into his paws and stated that he was looking for a girlfriendcat (and Sammy Meezer and all the other mancats there helped him out wif tips and emcouragement) he met Holly (Prince Tybalt's sisfur) and managed to day "hi" to hers. They talked and chatted and danced all evening, it was so cute! So now we are two superhappy mancats! And this is what Kashim has been doing ever since he came home:

A Heart for your Valentine @ Kochtopf

A heart for your Valentine Since the first attempt for Zorra's event for Valentine's Day was a mere disaster I tried something else. I remembered what I most loved in my childhood. It was Grandma's "Guglhupf" so I decided to make some heart shaped Gugelhupf for G. And what should I say? He really loved them and I am very glad it worked out in the end. :) Now since I have no internet at home and was at home with a flu for the past two days I am too late for entering the event but I wanted to post it though. Basically it is a plain "Marmorgugelhupf" nothing fancy or special but something we children always loved when we had it on sundays.

Heart-shaped Marmorgugelhupf

140 grams butter 230 grams sugar 3 eggs 1/8 l milk 280 grams flour 1/2 pkg. baking powder cocoa
Combine all ingredients (except the cocoa). Seperate one half of the dough and add cocoa to the other half. Add some spoons of first dough and then some spoons off 2nd dough. Stir gently with a thin stick to make some swirls. Bake at 150°C.

Now... you know it's Valentine's Day today. Uhm now and Othello kept nagging at me to send my pic to Queen Snickers Single Kitty Love Cafe to find meself maybe a Valentine or a ladycat who'll share my Gizzy Quilt wif me. Well, ... I may not appear to you but I am quite a shy guy when it comes to talk to the ladies... *scuffs paws nervously* BUT will there ever be a better day than Valentines for a mancat to take his heart into his paws and ask if there is any nice ladycat out there in the blogosphere who will share my Gizzy wif me or some best quality nip ravioli? I am a 9 years old mancat with my own Nip ravioli, two nice Gizzy quilts and some cans of tuna in the pantry. I know I can be grumpy sometimes but I am really soft hearted and love to snuggle. I can even offer a balcony at sommer to sit outside together. *snickers* *scuffs paws* So if anyone is interested I'd be very honored....

Waiter There's Something In My... Salad

waitertheressomething Andrew of Spittoon Extra is in charge of hosting this months WTSIM. He chose the theme "Salads" and this is what he says his announcement:
What I am thinking of, in regards to salads, are seasonal ingredients. I would have called it Winter Salads but the bottom-end of the world is of course in Summer and lets not forget the middle-bit that doesn't really bother with summer or winter. The list of ingredients is therefore wide open. It would be great if the ingredients were local, were all seasonal, organic, fair-trade and all that but often this is just not possible. There are no restrictions apart from the green-stuff (and the fruit component, if any) which should form the majority of the final dish. Additions such as nuts, chicken, ham, potatoes or Marmite are all fine but they must not dominate. No problems either with lashings of mayo or dressings! If you could get your entries in by the end of February that would be great. Please email to me direct with the subject line of WAITER.

Eigentlich wollte ich für Zorra's ValentinstagsEvent Herzküchlein backen, nunja und DAS ist dabei rausgekommen:

Ich schätze das Rezept (welches normalerweise wirklich lecker ist... ) verzeiht es einem nicht, wenn man statt der verlangten 225gr Mehl nur 175gr nimmt weil mans mit dem Zucker verwechselt hat... Vielleicht sollte ich nun auch schon beim backen meine Brille aufsetzen?!? Crap crap crapaty crap!! Schade um die leckere (und teure) Lindt Schokolade und die Cranberries *seufz* Der zweite Versuch sieht immerhin schon ein wenig besser aus...

BLOG-EVENT XXXI: CURRYS

Blog-Event XXXI - Curry BLOG-EVENT XXXI: CURRYS
Currys sind eine wirkliche Herausforderung für mich, da ich es eigentlich nicht scharf mag. Die meisten Currys die ich kenne sind aber schon ziemlich scharf und daher hab ich mich mit diesem Themengebiet nie näher beschäftigt. Für den derzeit laufenden Kochevent im Kochtopf allerdings wollte ich mich dann doch mal daran versuchen. Ich bin also zum Gewürzhändler meines Vertrauens (auf dem Wiener Naschmarkt) gestapft und hab ihm mein Problem geschildert. Neben 2 wirklich gutriechenden trockenen Curry-Gewürzmischungen bin ich auch mit einer kleinen Kostprobe einer gelben Currypaste wieder nachhause gekommen und habe mich brav an die Zubereitungsanweisungen des netten Mannes gehalten. Herausgekommen ist dabei dieses:
BLOG-EVENT XXXI: CURRYS

Hühnercurry mit Süsskartoffel

1-2 EL gelbe Currypaste 1-2 EL Öl 2 kleine Zwiebel 1 grosse Süsskartoffel ca 500 ml Kokosmilch 1 Hühnerfilet klein geschnitten etwas Salz
Die Gelbe Currypaste mit etwas Öl in einer Pfanne ca. 1/2 Minute anrösten, dann die klein geschnittenen Zwiebel, Süsskartoffel und Hühnerwürfel dazugeben und ca. 5 Minuten unter ständigem Rühren anbraten. Mit der Kokosmilch aufgiessen und bei kleiner Flamme ca. 30 Minuten köcheln lassen. Ich hab mit etwas Salz nachgewürzt und (in Ermangelung eines passenden Brotes) gekochenten Reis dazu serviert.

Fazit: Den Reis hätte ich nicht gebraucht, das Curry hat geschmacklich sehr sher gut geschmeckt und die Schärfe war auch für mich akzeptabel - grad ein bisserl im Nachgeschmack...

Flatbreads were the first breads (people have been making them for more than 6000 years) and exist in almost every culture. They can be leavened or unleavened. They can be made from every grain, even from legumes such as chickpeas or lentils. For some of them you don't even have to use an oven for baking, a griddle, a pan or an inversed wok is sufficient. Think of indian chapati, naan, dosa or paratha, of italian focaccia, ethiopian injeera, swedish knäckebröd, scottish oatcakes, turkish pide, mexican tortilla, jewish matzo, armenian lavash, south tyrolean Vinschger Paarlen... this list could go on and on. As there are so many pure flatbreads I would like you to exclude rich ones like pizza and related baked goods. I would love you to participate and join flatbread baking day. All you have to do is bake a flatbread of your choice, take a photo and blog about it between now and March 1st.

Mancat Monday

Still no innernets AND no TV at home and momma is getting very cranky... And we are so behind with everything...
  • Still working on the member badges for The M-Cats Club (sorry Mr. Tigger) - we hope to finish them today...
  • Today is also the deadline for Monty Q. Cats contest for Valentines and we both want soooo much to participate - we hope momma will make it to help us in time...
  • We haven't commented and proper visited our furriends blogs since two months now, now that's way too long, don't you think? ...and we are missing all the fun fings going on :(

Geburtstagsapfelstrudeltorte... oder so...

Mrs Q. hatte gestern Geburtstag und nachdem durch mit dem kleinen Hrn Q. (4 1/2 Monate) in ihrem abendlichen Ausgehradius eher sehr eingeschränkt ist und ich den kleinen süssen Fratz ja nicht unbedingt der liebenden Mama entreissen wollte, bin ich gestern abend wie Rotkäppchen körbchenschwingend die zwei Strassen zwischen unseren beiden Wohnungen entlanggeschlendert und hatte die von ihr geliebte - und hier schon erfolgreich erprobte - Apfelstrudel-Geburtstgs-Torte nebst knallpinkem (immerhin wollte/sollte sich die Torte ja auch verdient werden... ) Geschenk im Gepäck... Dazu gabs dann Heisse Schokolade mit Baileys *mjam*

Die Torte gabs dann sogar in zweifacher Ausführung: Einmal mit gezogenem Strudelteig (in klein) weils ihr eigentlich so besser schmeckt und einmal mit Mürbteig, weil der leichter zu machen ist ;o) War ein schöner Abend mit Girl-talk über Gott und die Welt und alle wichtigen Sachen eben *zwinker* und dem Geburtstagskind hats glaub ich auch gefallen ;o)

Sweet potatoe & carrot soup

Sweet potato and carrot soup
Yet another soup - it seems hat I am addicted to soups right now... And again it's a quite quick and easy made one :)

Sweet potato & carrot soup

1 big sweet potato, copped 3-4 middle large carrots, chopped 1 small red onion, chopped some fresh parsley salt, pepper approx. 250-300 ml chicken stock or veggie soup some water some cream
Put all ingredients (except the cream) into your soup pot and bring to boil. Add water if needed to fill up. Let simmer for about 20 minutes. Puree everything (carrots and potatoes...) until you have a smooth, creamy consistency. Add as much additional fluid as you need to get the right consistency of your soup. Right before serving add some cream and decorate with fresh parsley.

Mmmmh! I loved it!

Momma's friend mrs q. (momma to our best furriends Cindy and Spot) cellybrates her Birfday today. She is a real nice lady and she can give real good scritches and such!

But we think momma will get into real trouble for this (click to bigify): frame4963120 You know they both really hate girlish colors like pink and such but momma saided this had to be the revenge for the big pink butterfly she gotted her purresent from mrs q decorated last year... *sigh* beans, aye?! Mancat Monday

waiting patiently Waiting, thinking and dreaming of my Ladycat Gree... *sigh*

With Valentine's Day coming up we have lots to do: I - Othello - am still working on his valentine surprise for Gree We are both working on our contributions to Skeezix's Valentines contest and on Monty Q.'s "Who do you love" contest and we hope momma will be cooperative to get everything ready in time *sigh* I - Othello - am working on getting Kashim to do a submission to the "Love Cafe" to find himself a Valentine of even better a LadyCat for his very own, but is simply is too shy to do so. Any mancat out there who can help me with this? Or any LadyCat out there who'd be interested? ... aye I mean he IS grumpy sometimes but he has a very sweet and protective and thoughtful side too... *ouch* hey! this IS true!!
Talking of ManCats: Please be sure to check out all the cool mancats at Mr.Tigger's M-Cats Club -See you there guys! We've been trying hard to catch up with all the news but without innernet at home it is quite hard :(

  • Sad things have been happening to friends of Mom Robyn - we are furry sad and are purring for thems!
  • Princess posted Caesar's last Mancat Monday and we are sad 'CCause we still miss him but we are sure he is furry proud of his sisfur and family being so brave despite of the grieve and feeling the loss of hims.
We'll try and visit you all during the week 'though we still cannot comment on your blogs :( Momma found out that https connections have been restricted at werk so she can't comment for us.

[Weekend Herb Blogging] - Chicken soup

Chicken soup
My chicken soup surely is not as tasty or fancy as Kalyn's several recipes here, here, here, here or my all time favorite here - in fact it was rather basic but it tasted very good tough and soothed my belly :) This weeks WHB is hosted by Anna from Anna's Cool Finds.

Chicken soup

3 large carrots, cut into slices 1 small celery, cubed 1 small leek, chopped 2 spring onions, chopped some dried parsley, celery, lovage, marjoram some fresh parsley salt, pepper to taste chicken giblets
Heat your soup pot and add all ingredients plus enough water to cover everything. Bring to boil and then let simmer for about 30-45 minutes. Season with salt and pepper. Separate the chicken and cut into small bites from the bones and but it into your soup bowl. Add as much vegetables and soup you like. :o)

Hmmm, maybe II hope so! It's been such a long time that I have been able to participate in blog events with stress at work and the new apartment and all the moving stuff in late December the second half of last year was just terrible... :(

This is what Johanna wants us to do:

We're kick-starting 2008 with a brand-spanking new theme for this ever-so-popular event, and I have chosen terrines. Yep, you heard that right, starting with a "T". No ueber-fashionable "verrines" here (although this would bea lovely theme for another WTSIM), we are keeping it traditional, if only with regards to the shape: as long as you use a loaf tin or paté mould, you're in business! As for the filling, anything is allowed. Make a venison & port paté, a chicken liver parfait or salmon mousse, wrap it in pancetta, pastry or salad leaves, make it vegetarian (which is just what I am planning to do) or even sweet... the choice is yours! Your post must be published between now and the 22th of January, which also is my birthday - there can never be enough tasty recipes for that special day, right? In der neuen Küche rumspielen und kochen macht doch ne Menge Spass, alleine die Nichtverfügbarkeit von TV und Internet trübt den Spass etwas.... Sonntags brauchte ich ein schnelles "Mittagessen" und nach Inspektion meines Kühlschrankes bin ich auf folgende Improvisation gekommen:

für 1 Person 1 Portion gekochter Reis 3-4 Hühnerflügerl 3 Frühlingszwieberl 1/2 kleiner Camembert Salz Peffer 1 Schuss Basilikum-Maiskeimöl Grillgewürz nach Geschmack
Hühnerflügerl mit Grillgewürz und Salz/Pfeffer würzen und in den Backofen bei 180°C-200°C grillen bis knusprig braun. In der Zwischenzeit Frühlingszwiebel gut waschen und inkl. Grün in kleine Scheiben schneiden (etwas vom Grün zum Anrichten aufheben). Zwieberl mit Basilikumöl andünsten und mit Salz/Pfeffer würzen, dann mit etwas Wasser aufgiessen. Den Reis zugeben und zuletzt (kurz vor dem Servieren) den Camembert untermischen. Reisportion auf ein Teller geben, mit dem übrigen Grün bestreuen und die Hühnerflüger darauf drapieren. ;o)

BLOG-EVENT XXXI: CURRYS

Blog-Event XXXI - Curry Die Hedonistin ist diesmal der Host für den Blogevent im Kochtopf und hat uns folgende Aufgabe gestellt:
Schmurgelt indische oder dem indischen Stil ähnliche Gerichte mit einer Sauce (so die Curry-Definition von Madhur Jaffrey, deren Curry-Bibel eine unerschöpfliche Fundgrube an Rezepten und Ideen ist), und lasst eurer Kreativität freien Lauf. Ob ihr die verwendeten Gewürze freihändig zusammenstellt oder fertige Würzmischungen (egal ob Currypulver, Currypaste, Masala etc) benutzt, ist selbstverständlich euch und euren Vorlieben überlassen. Aber jedenfalls solltet ihr ein Curry-Gericht daraus zubereiten: "Isolierte" Rezepte für selbst gemachte Curry-Würzmischungen sind zwar auch willkommen, würden aber nur außer Konkurrenz mitlaufen. Verratet euer Rezept ab sofort bis spätestens 15. Februar, Punkt Mitternacht.

bbd #06 - shaped breads hosted by Sweet Sins deadline: February 1st, 2008 Sweet Sins says in her announcement:
We've had herbs, spices, and fruit - this time, it's all about the shape. I invite you to share your favourite recipes for all sorts of shaped breads - be it something traditional like a braided challah or a pretzel or something a little unusual like a cut-out sun, letters made out of bread dough or whatever you can think of. Although I'm most interested in hand-shaped bread, you can also use a fancy mold. The only requirement is that you don't choose a normal loaf shape like batard, boule or baguette. However, round bread rolls count as well as long as they have something unusual like a decorative slashing pattern. Please post about your recipe and your experiences with shaping between now and 1 February 2008. Make sure to send me an email (eva.schatz at gmail.com) until 1 Feb 08 including the name of your blog, your location, the name of your creation, and a perma link of your post. If you have a photo of your creation, please attach a small version, about 100 pixels in width. I will be posting the round-up by 5 February 2008.
